Lamplight Farms, Inc. Announces Recall of certain TIKI® Metal Flame Guards as used on some bamboo torches and replacement canisters

The following product safety recall was conducted voluntarily by the firm in cooperation with the CPSC. Customers should stop using the affected products immediately.

Name of Product: Tiki® metal flame guard

Units: About 981,000

Manufacturer: Lamplight Farms, Inc.

Hazard: The surface coating of these flame guards can absorb torch fuel which - under certain conditions - may be ignited by the flame from the torch wick, possibly setting the torch itself on fire. This poses a risk of burn injuries and property damage.

Incidents/Injuries: Lamplight Farms has received reports of torch fires with some minor property damage and related minor injuries.

Description: The recalled Tiki® Metal Flame Guard is a circular black component which sits atop a bamboo torch, holds the wick in place and threads to the fuel canister of the following torches: Tiki Beachcomber, Seagrass and Sandpiper. It is also present on some Replacement Canisters.

Lamplight Farms, Inc. Announces Recall of TIKI® Metal Cone Torch

The following product safety recall was conducted voluntarily by the firm in cooperation with the CPSC. Customers should stop using the product immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: Tike Metal Cone Torch

Units: About 250,000

Manufacturer: Lamplight Farms, Inc.

Distributor: Sold exclusively at Wal-Mart Stores.

Hazard: The head/cover on these torches may come loose during use, allowing torch fuel to be expelled and causing property damage or burn injury to individuals in the immediate area.

Incidents/Injuries: Lamplight Farms has received 1 report that during use, a torch head fell off the torch pole when bumped and spilled torch fuel which was ignited by the burning wick assembly resulting in 1 report of burn injuries, including at least one third degree burn.

Description: The recalled Tike Metal Cone Torch was sold under Lamplight Farms model numbers 1263 and 126301 and Wal-Mart item numbers 1656121 and 1691366. Both items were sold with the same UPC number 0008686101263 which is located on the bottom of the printed hangtag.

Sold By: Wal-Mart Stores from December 2003 through June 2005 for about $8.88.

Remedy: Consumers should stop using these torches and return them to any Wal-Mart store for a refund of the purchase price.

Additional Product Safety

Lamplight Farms produces two types of lamp oil: Lamplight Farms Ultra-Pure and Lamplight Farms regular lamp oil.

Both types of lamp oil are HARMFUL OR FATAL IF SWALLOWED. If swallowed, do not induce vomiting. Call a physician immediately. The product should be left to pass through the system normally. The greatest potential danger is that, should the child or individual vomit, some of the oil could aspirate into the lungs and this could quite possibly cause a petroleum pneumonia, a very serious illness.

Lamplight Farms Ultra-Pure Lamp Oil is a petroleum hydrocarbon consisting of 98% normal paraffin (liquid wax). It consists of high-purity, linear saturated paraffin blends of various molecular weights in the carbon range of C10-C16 and of low viscosity.

Lamplight Farms regular lamp oil is a petroleum hydrocarbon with a distillation range from an initial boiling point of 370°F to an end point of 518°F. It is similar to kerosene but is much more highly refined. For all practical purposes, all of the aromatics and sulphur have been removed.

Listed below are the warnings and other safety information that is printed on all of our oil bottles. (The most important warning and safety information we can supply is to KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.)

DANGER: HARMFUL OR FATAL IF SWALLOWED,. COMBUSTIBLE.
Contains petroleum hydrocarbons. Do not take internally. If swallowed, do not induce vomiting. Call a physician immediately. Use only in a well ventilated area. Avoid frequent or prolonged contact with skin.

KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN. NEVER LEAVE A LIGHTED OIL CANDLE OR LAMP UNATTENDED.
Do not store near heat or open flame. As with all oil candles and lamps an open flame is present; therefore, use with extreme care and at your own risk.

Lamplight Farms provides these warnings and utilizes child-resistant closures on all our oil bottles. The oil bottles still must be kept out of reach of children and once the oil is poured from the bottle into an oil lamp, the oil lamp must be kept out of reach of children. Lamplight relies on parents as partners in our efforts to prevent accidental ingestion of lamp oil.
