  3. Ultra-Pure® Oil Cartridges

Oil Lamps

Instructions

  1. Carefully remove the chimney and set aside.
  2. Unscrew the burner unit using a counter-clockwise motion. The wick should remain attached to the burner unit.
  3. Slowly pour Ultra-Pure® oil into the lamp base, filling to about ½ inch from the neck as shown in the diagram.
  4. Replace the burner unit, inserting the bottom of the wick into the liquid. Tighten the burner unit snugly, using a clockwise motion.
  5. Let the lamp sit for about 15 minutes after filling to allow the wick to absorb the oil.
  6. With the burner unit firmly in place but the chimney still removed, set the wick height. Turn the adjusting knob to raise or lower the wick so that it is even with the top of the wick guide tube underneath the burner dome.
  7. Light the wick and replace the chimney.
  8. To extinguish, cup your hand behind the chimney without touching it- the chimney will be very hot.
  9. Blow toward the bottom of your cupped hand until the flame has gone out.
  10. Allow the lamp to cool completely before refilling or storing it.

Wick Maintenance

  1. 1. Maintain a low flame height. Failure to restrict flame height could result in severe smoke and soot damage. If soot or smoke appears, slowly lower the wick height until you no longer see any soot or smoke.
  2. If the wick becomes charred or burned, extinguish the lamp and allow it to cool completely. Trim off the damage portion and readjust the wick.
  3. Oil lamps are equipped with either a flat wick or round wick. Flat wicks can be trimmed to achieve different flame effects.
  4. To trim the wick, use sharp scissors.
  5. For a peaked flame, trim the wick to a point. The flame should not exceed ¾ inch in height while burning.
  6. A crowned flame can be achieved by rounding off the top of the wick with the scissors. The flame should not exceed ¾ inch in height.
  7. For a double flame, trim the wick to two points. The flame should not exceed ¾ inch in height while burning.
  8. All flat and round wicks should be trimmed straight across before use if not being trimmed as described above. Trimming straight across will produce a flame that should not exceed 3/4 inch in height.

Precautions:

  1. Use only Ultra-Pure® oil in this product. Never use gasoline, alcohol or solvents as a fuel in this or any other oil lamp.
  2. Place the lamp on a level surface, away from combustibles and OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN AND PETS.
  3. NEVER LEAVE A LIT LAMP UNATTENDED.
  4. Do not touch the lampshade or collar while lit as they can get hot.  Wait at least 5 minutes after extinguishing before touching.
  5. For best performance, always keep the level of oil at least 1 inch above the bottom of the wick.
  6. Store oil in upright position to prevent leakage.
  7. Wipe up any drips or spills immediately using warm soapy water or a citrus-based cleaner. Wash your hands before handling food or other objects.
  8. As with all liquid and solid wax candles, an open flame is present; therefore use with extreme care and at your own risk.
